At El Gato Chocolate, every bar tells a story — not just of flavor, but of culture, climate, and connection. Through this incredible journey, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Miguel, a renowned Peruvian plastic artist and graphic designer from Tarapoto, whose murals grace cities across Peru. But Miguel’s talent goes far beyond walls — he’s helped transform my vision into the colorful, expressive packaging that now carries our chocolate across the globe.
At El Gato Chocolate, we bring Peru to the world by blending art, culture, and the bold soul of our cacao.
Together, we created illustrations that reflect the microclimates of Peru’s three regions — Coast, Mountains, and Jungle — each portrayed in different times of day, with native plants and ingredients that grow in those areas. Every detail is intentional: from the cacao pods nestled in jungle foliage, to the golden light of the Andean highlands, to the coastal breeze brushing through trees.
Where Flavor Becomes Art
For our flavored bars, Miguel incorporated visual cues of the main ingredients, blending storytelling with sensory anticipation. And of course, our beloved cats — playful, mysterious, and deeply symbolic — weave through the designs, inviting curiosity and joy.
As the founder, my dream was to bring the heart of Peru to people everywhere, to help them feel connected to our land, our farmers, and our culture. What better way to do that than through art and chocolate? After all, who doesn’t love cats? And who doesn’t love art?
